So, when 2024 began, I started implementing some rules inclusive of my diet and skin. I reduced my rice consumption so that my stomach didn’t end up using too much energy to digest. And for skincare, I went on using just a cleanser and moisturizer. Suddenly in the month of June and July, I saw a strange change in my face.
Also, I must confess, that I was underweight in the process as well. I was so underweight that everyone who knew me, started complaining and started questioning ‘What happened to me?’
I was totally unaware that my reduced rice consumption might be responsible for me going underweight every day. Also, I joined a gym and started weightlifting. That must have affected me going underweight too. For your reference, I am 32 and I weighed 44 kg then. And, for my height, I am 5 ft 1 inch. Yes, I am short.
So, one day after Durga Puja, I took a leap of faith and started eating wholeheartedly.
Now, I am an avid rice consumer. I love rice. When I reduced my rice consumption I reduced my carb intake. Now, let me tell you, all this time, I was consuming protein powder(Whey protein). But, I realised that there was something still missing in my life.
Due to my endometriosis, fibroid, and endometriotic cyst, I was under contraceptive pills as medication. The pill did nothing good to me. I experienced extraordinary fear, tension, sometimes chronic stress, and a lot of low days where I was fighting my fears. These days are nothing but howling days. So, I held my hormonal pills responsible for my pale, dry, exhausted look.
After August (I am not sure about the month though, but I am sure it was closer to the end of 2024),
- I changed my doctor(gynecologist, I changed her in July),
- Consulted a dietician(in November).
- And started eating rice as much as I could eat.
However, I ensured that I kept my stomach loose as well.
I started seeing a significant difference. I noticed that my skin was glowing. Also, as for skincare, I started going for cleansers, toners, snail mucin, HA serum, vitamin C serum, retinol serum, and a hydrating moisturizer. I was genuinely happy, seeing significant positive changes.
Here I believe all credit goes to my adequate rice consumption.
When I reduced the quantity of rice in my lunch and dinner, here is what happened-
- I appeared much older than my real age.
- I looked tired all the time.
- My undereye dark circles were much more prominent, which made me look devastated.
- My hair grew greyer every day.
- I grew skinnier which genuinely stressed out my MIL. Honestly, I was also not happy, I started seeing my rib cages popping up.
However, I must say one thing here, when I reduced my rice consumption, I did not feel hungry as well. You might say in your head while reading this blog, that I might have starved myself, yet, I never felt hungry all this time.
But when I changed my rice consumption during my lunches and dinners, after just one week I was happy seeing the positive development of my health.
The best thing right now is that –
- I am consuming protein powder,
- 500 ml of rice every day during lunch and dinner,
- an adequate portion of sabzi/daal, and
- two eggs(cooked or made into an omelette)
And I am still slim. I haven’t put on extra weight at all. In fact, I look healthy(unless it’s a low-energy day), happy, glowy, youthful and healing every day; which is something I wanted so bad.
- I drink an adequate amount of water(2-3 litres mostly).
- But I have started eating raw seeds and nuts,
- Along with one tablespoon of ghee with lunch and dinner(which is not regular as well).
- Also, I have stopped eating outside food.
- In fact, I have restricted myself from eating fish, and meats(mutton and chicken).
The only one thing I can’t live without at the moment is coffee which I believe keeps me mentally and emotionally happy.
While Wrapping Up
So, this was my experience when I chose to reduce my rice intake. This made me worry more and not happy at all. In fact when I saw my image, be it a photo or in the mirror, I was disappointed since I didn’t look the way I wanted to see myself.
Yes, I took a leap of faith, since previously I believed that rice might be causing me to turn chubby. But 2024 made me discover, that rice was not the villain. The takeaways, the fast food parties every weekend and eating dinner from outside were truly my enemies.
